CANFIELD - Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel for George J. Cucaro, 97, who passed away Saturday morning at Hospice House.
George was born Jan. 12, 1920, in Youngtown, a son of the late Frank and Mary (Larocco) Cucaro.
George served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in Hawaii and Washington, D.C. He worked for Truscon Steel, B&I Management, and Austintown Plaza Maintenance. George was a charter member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. He was also a member of the Arco Club, where he played bocce.
His wife, the former Josephine T. Sertich, whom he married Aug. 2, 1947, passed away Sept. 28, 2008.
George leaves his daughters, Georgette (Lester) Szabados of Liberty and Laura Scalise of Austintown; a son, Thomas Cucaro, with whom he made his home, of Canfield; three grandchildren, Renee (Joseph) Bornemiss, Michelle (Frank) Gugliotta, and Lori (Gregory) Toporcer; six great-grandchildren, Cara and Jenna Bornemiss, Maci, Lexi, and Jared Toporcer, and Jacob Gugliotta; a sister, Rose Sefner of Kansas City, Kan.; and a brother, Thomas (Kathleen) Cuccaro of Melbourne, Fla.
George was also preceded in death by two sisters, Josephine and Frances; and two brothers, Pascal and James.
Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
