"Together Again"
POLAND - Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel, for George A. Dickey, 93, who died Thursday evening at the Commons at Greenbriar.
George was born May 25, 1920, in Youngstown, to James and Ruth (Duncan) Dickey.
He was a graduate of Salem High School and served his county in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from Cold Metal Products in 1983 after working as a furnace operator for 35 years.
George was a member of the Christ Church Presbyterian, the American Legions in Poland, the Struthers VFW Post No. 3538, and the Uptown Kiwanis Club.
George had a passion for steam locomotives, model trains and railroads. He also had a great love for animals. George was an avid bowler, who loved teaching and sponsoring "George's Girls" for his wife and daughter.
His wife, Marian (Zellner), whom he married May 20, 1948, died April 2, 2009.
George is survived by a daughter, Patti (Gary) Greene of Boardman; a son, Phil (Lynn) Dickey of New Springfield; a sister, Mary Jane Mook; three brothers, Jim, Tom and Frank Dickey; two grandchildren, Nina Steele and Chris Dickey; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth and Margaret Dickey and two brothers, Bill and Ed Dickey.
Family and friends may call Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
