AUSTINTOWN - A prayer service will be held on Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Austintown, for Mr. George E. Fleischer, 86, who died Thursday morning at his residence, surrounded by his family.
George was born Dec. 1, 1928, in Youngstown, a son of Henry and Sadie (Cole) Fleischer.
He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, receiving the Victory Medal. For more than 30 years, George had worked at U.S. Steel, McDonald Works.
George loved spending time with his family, and enjoyed listening to country music and feeding the ducks, birds and deer that would come visit in his yard. George was known in the neighborhood as the handyman because he could fix anything. His favorite card game was pinochle.
George married the former Rita A. Schesler on May 9, 1953, and they were married for 49 years before she died on Nov. 9, 2002.
He leaves his three daughters, Valerie (Tim) Pappas of Cadiz, Lisa (Frank) Plevniak of Tallmadge, and Tracey (Jason) Orwell of Boardman; two sons, George "Scott" (Robin) Fleischer of Austintown and Patrick (Pam) Fleischer of Boardman; one sister, Mary (Dick) Bland of Woodsfield; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rita; a sister, Edna Waller; and four brothers, James, Hank, Robert and Jack Fleischer.
The family would like to thank Hospice of the Valley for all of their kindness and their compassion towards their dad.
Memorial contributions maybe made to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512, in memory of George.
Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
