George Melody

FT. MYERS, FLA. - Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2011, at St. Christine Church, 3165 Schenley Ave. in Youngstown for George William Melody, 72, who passed away suddenly early Sunday morning at Gulf Coast Hospital in Ft. Myers, from surgery complications.

George was born Dec. 12, 1938, in Youngstown, a son of the late William E. and Helen Mae Kelso Melody.

He graduated from The Rayen School in 1957 and Youngstown State University in 1963. George spent 35 years as an engineer for Packard Electric before retiring in 1997 and lending his time serving on numerous boards and committees such as past President of SAE Fraternity, Saxon Club Vice-President, Commodore of Lake Milton Boat Club and various roles on his condo associations.

Time in Youngstown was spent with life-long friends, the Saxon Club Golf and Bocce League, Duffer's Golf League and Lake Milton Boat Club. He loved to golf, bocce and travel. He traveled to six continents with his last trip to golf in Scotland with his sons. George spent the last 10 years in Bonita Springs, Fla., enjoying the beach, sunshine, golf and gatherings with friends.

George will be deeply missed by his wife of 47 years, Dorothy Williams Melody; daughter Sheri Goetz Matt of Cincinnati; sons Scott Scottie of Dublin and Commander Jeffrey Bevin of Stuttgart, Germany; eight grandchildren, MacGregor, Allison, Ian and Brianna Goetz, Anastasia and Eve Melody, DJ Cox and Elise Melody; and great-grandchild Tyler Cox.

Friends may call on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel and on Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.

The family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to The Arthur G James Cancer Hospital, 660 Ackerman Road, P.O. Box 183112, Columbus, OH 43218 Colon Cancer Fund.
