AUSTINTOWN ? A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and prayers offered at 10 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for George D. ?Elmer? Protain, 73, who died late Sunday night at Austin Woods Nursing Center.
George was born Nov. 5, 1936, in Youngstown, to the late Francis E. and Anna Mae Lehman Protain.
He was a 1956 graduate of South High School. A member of Our Lady Of Mt. Carmel Parish, George retired from Youngstown Steel Door with 25 years of service.
George enjoyed the outdoors. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. He also enjoyed bowling, accomplishing a 299 game. He was a avid Browns and Indians fan.
Besides his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife, the former Donna Jean Troll, who he married Oct. 11, 1958, she died May 17, 1998; a granddaughter, Donna Jean Protain; and four brothers, Francis, Louis, Edward J., and Howard Protain.
He is survived by his daughter, Anna Mae Robert Williams of Austintown; four sons, George D. Colleen Protain of Youngstown, Joseph F. Protain, Jeffrey H. Anna Marie Protain of Austintown and Anthony T. Protain of North Jackson; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty Reese of Rocky River and Arlene Larson of Youngstown.
Friends may call today from 5 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
