YOUNGSTOWN - Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather George R. Kolesar passed away Sunday evening, February 9th, at Hope Hospice Cape Coral, FL.

Born July 30, 1937, in Cleveland, George was the son of the late George Joseph and Louise Lucille Grove Kolesar.

George's life was marked by numerous accomplishments and milestones that showcased his relentless work ethic and commitment to bettering the world around him. After graduating from Parma Senior High School, he pursued his education at Ohio University and later attended the Cooper School of Art.

George's sense of duty led him to serve in the Navy, where he selflessly dedicated himself to the defense of his country.

Throughout his career, George excelled in sales at Cleveland Press, Wolf Envelope and American Paper Products. He later went on to own and operate Postal Mail Sort from 1982 until 2004. In 2018 he was presented the PCC Leadership Award for outstanding vision, dedication and commitment to excellence.

Following retirement, George and his loving wife Barbara relished their time together at their home in Fort Myers, FL. It was here that they created countless cherished memories filled with love and joy. During their time in Florida, they were members of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Fort Myers.

While George's professional achievements were commendable, it was his involvement in various organizations that truly highlighted his character. He took great pride in initiating the Youngstown Association of Postal Customer Council in conjunction with the US Postal Service.

Deeply rooted in faith, George was an active member of the St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church. He lent his beautiful voice to their chair and remained committed to his faith throughout his life. Additionally, he was an influential member of the O Club at the church, a testament to his unwavering support for its activities.

The Youngstown Lions Club held a special place in George's heart. As their past president, he spearheaded vital initiatives to uplift those in need within the community. Year after year, he passionately contributed to the club's fundraising efforts and received the prestigious Melvin L. Jones Foundation Award as recognition for his outstanding service.

George's loving spirit extended to his family and friends, who cherished him dearly. He was united in marriage to Barbara Sveda Kolesar on June 16, 1979, and together they built a beautiful life. George leaves behind a loving legacy through his children, Karen (Mark) Loth of Pataskala, Krissanne (Brett) Schmidt of Pataskala, and Richard (Cynthia) Kolesar of Columbus. His grandchildren, Ryan (Melissa) Loth, Gregory (Harley) Schmidt, Megan (Mike) Stemen, and Carley Schmidt and his great grandchildren, William, Lydia, Deacon, and Elenor Grace, brought immense joy to his life. He is also survived by his brother, James (Glenda) Kolesar of Abington, VA; a niece, Mary Mahan; a great niece, Mia Mahan; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul and Kathy Rish.

His family and friends may pay their respects from 4 to 7 PM Sunday, Feb. 16th at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel, where a Panichida Service will be held at 7 PM.

Family and friends may also pay their respects from 10 to 11 AM Monday, Feb. 17th at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, 301 Struthers-Liberty Road, Campbell, where a Funeral Service will follow at 11 AM. with the Very Revs. John Staffaro and Andrew Bartek officiating.

A procession to the parish cemetery where George will be laid to rest will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church.
