NORTH LIMA – George J. Stevens, 90, entered his eternal rest Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019, three days before his 91st birthday, at the Assumption Village in North Lima.
George was the son of the late Stephen J. and Anna Wansack Stevens. He was born in the family home on Katherine Street in Struthers, on Feb. 8, 1928.
George was employed for 31 years at LTV Steel in the Cold Strip department. He also worked for Dempsey Steel and as a part-time courier for ClinLab, in his retirement.
George enjoyed many things, family dinners and get togethers, visiting relatives, reminiscing with stories of his younger years, buying new cars and taking care of them, and talking on the phone to family and friends. He became a Cleveland Indians fan later in life, rarely missing a game on TV.
He was a devoted and loving husband and father. His wife of 59 years, the former Helen Balishin, preceded him in death on May 23, 2016, exactly 63 years after their first date.
Surviving him are his three daughters, Cynthia (Joseph) Markota of Poland, Nancy (Anthony) Coppola of Poland, and Debra (Matthew) Malenic of Palmyra, Pa. and his nine grandchildren, Anastasia and Jonathan Markota, Antonia, Samuel, Grace and Victoria Coppola, Alexandra, Carly and Lillie Davis.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, William.
A private family service was held on Feb. 16, 2019, at Poland Riverside Cemetery with Fr. Michael Farynets officiating.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Assumption Village for the compassionate care George was given during his stay there.
Professional arrangements were handled by the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel.
