George Vasu

MINERAL RIDGE - Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Boardman for George G. Vasu, 102, who passed away Saturday evening at Vista Care at The Ridge.

George was born Oct. 13, 1911, in Sharon, Pa., a son of the late Romulus G. and Margit Hrapko Vasu.

George was a 1932 graduate of South High School. He was a self-employed general contractor for 25 years. George then started working in maintenance at Higbees for 10 years. He was a also a member of the Mill Creek Baptist Church.

His wife, the former Helen Moldovan, whom he married Nov. 14, 1936, passed away May 7, 2008.

George leaves two daughters-in-law, Nancy Vasu of Canfield and Carma Vasu of Boardman; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Handel of Boardman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

George was also preceded in death by two sons, Lawrence "Larry" Vasu and Robert A. Vasu; three sisters, Jane Olson, Alice Kish, and Aurelia Wertz; and three brothers, Claude, Lawrence and Leo Vasu.

George's family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Vista Care at The Ridge for the loving care they gave him the last eight years and to Caring Hands Hospice especially at the end.

Friends may call Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at Forest Lawn.
