YOUNGSTOWN - Services will be Monday evening at 7 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel for Gerald L. Shugart, 68, who died early Saturday morning at Select Care at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown after a long illness.
Gerald was born Feb. 7, 1946, in Youngstown, the son of Thomas F. and Marjorie "Midge" (Burns) Shugart.
He was a 1963 graduate of East High School and then began a lifelong career in auto repair. He was the owner operator of Shugart's Auto Body for many years until the time of his illness. He became well-known for his skills in repairing and restoring cars. He was also a excellent mechanic and avid race car enthusiast. He had raced in cars that he built. In addition to his talents in auto repair, Jerry also had worked as a carpenter.
He is survived by his mother, Marjorie "Midge" Brancho of Youngstown; two daughters, Linda (Bobby) Weidner of North Carolina and Jaime (Vince) DePascale of Struthers; a daughter-in-law, Jennifer Howe; a son, Jeffrey Shugart of Youngstown; four sisters, Marjorie J. Barnett of Youngstown, Nancy Shugart of Youngstown, Judith Ann Shugart of Struthers and Kimberly Brancho Donnadio of North Carolina; four brothers, Thomas (Candy) Shugart of Ellsworth, Fredrick W. (Vera) Shugart of Canfield, William L. (Margaret) Brancho of Boardman and Gary Brancho of Akron; 11 grandchildren, Jessi, Clara, Brett, Gregory, Nadyne, Devin, Jeffrey, Nathan, Kyleigh, Vinny and McKenna; two great-grandchildren, Emara and Eralynn; his former wife, Roseary Morall of Poland; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Shugart; his father, Thomas Shugart; and stepfather William L. Brancho.
Friends may call on Monday from 5 p.m. until services at 7 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel.
