YOUNGSTOWN - Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, for Gerald "Jerry" A. Yohman, 79, who passed away Saturday at his home.
Jerry was born Feb. 18, 1935, in Youngstown, a son of the late Andrew and Sophie (Kohut) Yohman.
Jerry was a 1953 graduate of Chaney High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After being discharged from the Army, Jerry served in the Air Force Reserves in Vienna. He retired in 1981 from Youngstown Steel Door as a floor superintendent.
Jerry was a member of the Ruskin Florida VFW Post No. 6287 and the American Legion and was their bingo caller on bingo nights. On Veteran's Day 2013, he was Grand Marshal of the parade in Ruskin. He participated in fundraisers for the needy, along with food and monetary donations to St. Ann's Church in Ruskin.
Jerry was a former member of St. Joseph Church in Austintown, where he served as an usher and was a member of their Men's Club. He enjoyed horse racing, family poker, golf, fishing, and bowling. He was known to everyone as an all-around handyman.
Jerry leaves his wife, Jean Zupko of Youngstown; two daughters, Janet (Judy Strawn) Yohman of Cortland and Chrissy (Rick) Falter of Dover, Fla.; a son, David Yohman of Youngstown; three grandchildren, Jennifer Hoffman, Kristen Hoffman, and David "DJ" Yohman; a great-granddaughter, Addisyn Faith Lawson; two stepchildren Donald Zupko Jr. of Leominster, Mass., and Pamela (Steve) Miner of Wapakoneta; and his former wife, Christine Botirius of New Springfield.
Jerry was preceded in death by his sister, Doreen Ciccarelli; and two brothers, Andrew "Pete" Yohman and Russell Yohman.
Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
