YOUNGSTOWN - Services will be held at the Boardman-Canfield Chapel of the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home on Friday evening at 7 p.m. for Geraldine Melewski, 76. While visiting her dear cousins, Mary Lou and Joan Ragan, in South Carolina, she died unexpectedly early Tuesday morning.
Geraldine was born on March 4, 1937, in Youngstown, the daughter of Samuel and Rose Polojack.
A 1955 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, she was first employed in the offices of Loblaw's. Later, as a Licensed Optician, she worked for the Vision Center and then prior to retiring, became the Manager of J.C. Penny Optical department.
She loved being a caregiver, watching children from numerous local families and developed a particular fondness for her special little Bella. Geri loved traveling, planning dinners, parties, and events for her family, dining out, ceramics, and belonging to her girls' card club.
She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Lisa L. (Craig) Puhalla of Moon Township, Pa. and her son, Ted (Kris) Melewski of Boardman.
Her greatest joy was in the pride she had for her family and the bond she shared with all her grandchildren, Jared, Julia, Jenna, and Jacob Puhalla and Michael and Marisa Melewski.
She also leaves a sister, Rosemary Haines of Florida and her goddaughter, Leslie (Dennis) Zapka of Strongsville.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Thaddeus Melewski; and a brother, Bill Polojack.
Friends may call on Friday from 3 p.m. until 6:45 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel.
