Gladys Welty

CANFIELD - Gladys Welty, 94, died peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2021 at Over the Rainbow Nursing Home in Cortland.
Gladys was born Aug. 31, 1927, in Youngstown, the daughter of Herschel G. and Loretta Schultz Hall.
She was a graduate of The Rayen School and worked as a time clerk for General Fireproofing Office Systems for 33 years until retiring.
The Shultz's were a founding family of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Youngstown, where Gladys was baptized, confirmed and married, and spent time on the church council. She later was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Austintown and most recently attended Zion Lutheran Church in Cornersburg, where she enjoyed Nooners and the Card Club.
She was a member of AARP 4339 and the Saxon Club.
In her spare time, Gladys enjoyed garage saling, canning, collecting bells and traveling. She and her husband traveled to many places, including Hawaii, Germany and most of the 50 states.
Gladys' husband, Donald R. Welty, whom she married Oct. 10, 1970, died in Dec. of 2000.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews; great and great great nieces and nephews.
Gladys was also preceded in death by her sisters, Myrtle Hall, Velma Hamilton, Doris Gigee and Audrey Heideneseher; and brothers, Robert, William, Curtis and Walter Hall.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, January 16, 2022 at 1:30 PM at Zion Lutheran Church. Friends and family are invited to remain after the service for a time of remembering.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may take the form of donations to the music fund at Zion Lutheran Church.
Professional arrangements are being handled by the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel.
