Gregory Oswald

d. August 31, 2018

RALEIGH, N.C. – Gregory J. Oswald, 75, passed away peacefully on Friday, Aug. 31.

Greg was born in Toledo, son of the late Robert J. and Mary Jane (Witker) Oswald.

He was a graduate of St. Francis DeSales High School in Toledo. After high school, he went to the University of Toledo and then the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. He graduated with his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1965.

After receiving his degree, Dr. Oswald entered the U.S. Air Force as an Optometry Officer for three years. Following his tour of duty, he practiced in Toledo with his father for seven years. Then in 1976, he moved his practice to Youngstown, working until retirement in 1993. He lived in Youngstown until 2015.

Greg was a kindhearted and generous man, who loved getting to know people. He enjoyed doing handy man work around his house and yard, unless it involved plumbing. He also played tennis and golfed until he was unable, and loved fishing and playing cards with friends. He had a beautiful singing voice and was known to tear up the dance floor at special events.

Greg was also a beloved father and brother.

He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Julie Palmgren of Raleigh, and Adria Oswald of San Francisco; two granddaughters, Ava Palmgren and Grace Palmgren; one grandson, Jasper Licko; and one brother, Creighton Oswald of Albuquerque, N.M.

Calling hours will be held Saturday, Sept. 8 at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel from 9 to 11 a.m. with a funeral service at 11.
