BOARDMAN - Prayers will begin Wednesday morning at 10:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated at St. Charles Church at 11 a.m., for Lt. Colonel Greta D. Toth, 62, retired USAF, who died Wednesday evening at her home, after a courageous 18-month battle with breast cancer.
Greta was born Dec. 24, 1952, in Morehead, Ky., the daughter of Eugene and Lois (Flannery) Adkins.
She was a Registered Nurse, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Old Dominion University and a Master's of Nursing from Wright State University.
She had served in the U.S. Air Force as a Flight Nurse, Clinical Nurse and Nursing Administrator, serving during the Desert Shield/ Storm Campaign. She received numerous awards for her service, including medals for Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Defense Service Medal, and Humanitarian Service Medal, and awards and ribbons for Air Force training, Overseas Long Tour, Longevity of service, Outstanding Unit and Organizational Excellence. Following her retirement from the Air Force, she worked at Forum Health, and was currently working as a nurse manager for Anthem Blue Cross until the time of her illness.
She was a member of St. Charles Church, professional nursing sorority and organizations.
She is survived by her husband, Mark J. Toth, whom she married July 12, 1975; a daughter, Katie M. Toth of Copley; a brother, Greg (Joyce) Adkins of Springfield; and a sister-in-law, Anita L. Toth, with whom she shared her home.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Adkins; and an aunt, Marie Flannery, who helped raise her.
Greta's family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to the Disabled American Veterans or the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center, 1044 Belmont Ave., Youngstown, OH 44504.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel.
Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
