YOUNGSTOWN - Harold W. Schooley, 90, died Sept. 22, 2008, at the home of his son, Guy L. Schooley, after a long and courageously fought battle with Alzheimer¹s Disease.
He was born in Crafton, Pa. on June 23, 1918, a son of John and Mildred MacKenzie Schooley.
He graduated from Crafton High School in 1936. He attained a degree in accounting from Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh. He also earned a certificate for traffic and transportation from the Traffic and Transportation Association of Pittsburgh.
Harold worked first in the accounting department and then in transportation at the United Engineering and Foundry Company in Pittsburgh, which subsequently merged with Wean United Industries in Youngstown. He retired in 1963, after 45 years of service to that company.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII from May 11, 1942 to Jan. 28, 1946. He received medals and ribbons for service in both the American Theater and the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.
He was a member of the Disciples Christian Church in Boardman, the Crafton Masonic Lodge, the Alliance of Transylvania Saxons, and the Youngstown Traffic Club.
He leaves to cherish his memory Nancy L. Schooley, his wife of 56 years; his only son, Guy L. Schooley of Youngstown; two grandchildren, Elexa L. Keith Paul of Delaware and Guy P. Schooley of Worthington; two
great-granddaughters, Evelyn Marie Paul and Kathryn Anne Paul; one niece, Christine Gerlack of Pittsburgh; and one nephew, Rick Schooley of Palm Coast, Fla.
Harold was preceded in death by his only brother, Jack S. Schooley.
Harold¹s greatest interests were his family, their pets, his garden and traveling. For many years he had a small but very productive vegetable garden and enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends.
