BOARDMAN - Prayers will begin Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Church for Harold "Dutch" Shaffer, 75, who died Friday evening at his home.
Harold was born March 16, 1937, in Youngstown, the son of Harold and Elsie McHugh Shaffer.
He was a 1955 graduate of East High School and had worked at Geneva Steel as a machine operator before retiring in 1989. He enjoyed bowling and had bowled in several area bowling leagues.
He is survived by his wife, the former Jacqueline Rock, whom he married Nov. 9, 1957; three daughters, Lori James Clayton of Columbus, Marianne Tom Bruss of Canfield and Jacqueline Shaffer of Boardman; four sons, Harold "Dutchie" Maureen Shaffer II of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Ronald Cindy Shaffer of Wisconsin, Michael Jodi Shaffer of Canfield and Steven Shaffer of Boardman; three sisters, Carol of Hubbard, Margaret Joe Ruess of Struthers and Sharon Daniel Moison of Youngstown; three brothers, Jim Marlene Shaffer of Youngstown, Jack Tina Shaffer of Poland and Moe Loretta Shaffer of Liberty; an uncle, Jim Shaffer of Cortland; 20 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
