Helen Kawecki

NEW MIDDLETOWN – Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel for Mrs. Helen L. Kawecki, 74, who died Thursday , Aug. 22, 2018, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital.

Helen was born May 29, 1944, in Salem, to William and Dorothy (Harrold) Wilkeson.

She was a graduate of Springfield High School. Helen was a member of the Petersburg Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday School many years ago. She loved to sew, make quilts and garden. Helen had been a track coach for the Mahoning County Public Special Olympics and enjoyed watching the Special Olympic Games. She also enjoyed football and watched many Springfield games in her lifetime.

Helen married Joseph Kawecki on Oct. 5, 1962, and he died Sept. 5, 2010.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Laurie (Dan) Tomko of Lebanon; five sons, John (Elaine) of Poland, Steve (Liza) of Florida, Paul (Cheryl) of New Middletown, Mike of New Middletown and Tim (April) of Austintown; two sisters, Marge (Ed) Stacy of Petersburg and Miraim Smith of Export, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph, her daughter Janet McCarthy; her sister, Jane Simcox; and her brother, Richard Wilkeson.

Friends may call Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. and Monday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made in Helen’s memory to the Mahoning County Public Special Olympics.
