AUSTINTOWN - Prayers will be held Tuesday at 12:15 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church for Helen Ramunno Manginelli, 90, who passed away peacefully Thursday evening, Feb. 20, 2014.
Helen was born April 19, 1923, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Anthony and Florence (Pitassi) Ramunno.
Helen was a loving mother of Rocco John Manginelli Jr. and daughter-in-law Deborah Plunkett, Pasquale Manginelli, and Marie Elaina Schilling and son-in-law Scott Allen Schilling; a grandmother of Gabriel and Stephanie Manginelli, and Scott Charles Schilling; a sister of Dorothy DeSalle; and a sister-in-law of Antonetta DiScenna and Angela Manginelli of Syracuse, N.Y.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Rocco John Manginelli Sr., who passed away Feb. 18, 1995; her granddaughter, Francesca Elaine Schilling; sisters Mary Battagline, Concetta D'Urso, and Anna Rothwell; and brothers Sylvester Ramunno and Joseph Ramunno.
Helen was a graduate of The Rayen School, where she played first violin and at one time sat for the Youngstown Symphony. She was an opera fan and traveled extensively throughout the world. She was an extremely talented and avid knitter, and was very proud of her extensive award-winning needlework projects in which she won several blue ribbons at various venues including The Canfield Fair.
She had been a member of St. Charles Borromeo in Boardman since 1949, volunteered at St. Charles School for 15 years and in her later years volunteered again in the school lunchroom for 11 years. She was a member of the Sons of Italy, Pacentro Club, the Latin Culture Foundation, The Wolves Club, St. Charles Over 55 and cards clubs with lady friends.
In lieu of flowers, Helen specifically requested donations to St. Charles Borromeo School and MVI Hospice.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, 3701 Starr's Centre Drive in Canfield.
The family would like to thank many individuals at the Inn at Christine Valley for their loving care and the excellent staff at MVI Hospice.
The Manginelli family especially wants to thank the tender, loving, and considerate care of Helen's caregiver, Carol.
