BOARDMAN Helen Reinger, the former Helen Staley, entered into eternal rest March 19, 2009, in the arms of her family, at Hospice of the Valley, after a
valient bout with cancer. She lived a life devoted to family and service to church and community.
She and her late husband, of more than 60 years, William Reinger, were the parents of three children. Her departure from this life leaves a family spanning four generations, with three children, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mrs.
Reinger was born April 7, 1925. Helen¹s unselfish giving of herself to the community began more than 60 years ago as a Red Cross volunteer during
WWII.
She was a long standing member of Central Christian Church, where she served as the first and only women trustee and chairperson. Her love of food and cooking were no more apparent than at Central Christian Church, where her
church dinners were legend. She was always there 26 years, with her friends sharing the responsibility of menu planning and cooking for weddings,
funerals and holiday dinners. She absolutely loved the participation and joy that came from food preparation but even more so valued the long lasting
friendships that evolved.
Her leadership and contributions to the Christian Women¹s Federation CWF were welcomed by all. She was an elder in the Church and served on the board
of the Central Christian Day Care Center and was elected ³Mother of the Year² in 1978.
Helen will be remembered as a kind and loving person eager to contribute in any way. Many may remember her as ³seamstress² to the family and neighborhood. All you had to do was ask and she was there with a friendly smile to hem a skirt, repair a tear or let out those trousers. Her passion was gardening and took great pride in her flowers and vegetable garden.
Helen¹s active life included a love for bowling and she carried a 160 average at age 70. Whether it was bowling or playing a casual game of Dominoes, she was always focused and engaged. She will be missed.
She is survived by a daughter, Charlotte Andrew Kostelic of Canfield; two sons, David Meron Reinger of Woodland, Wash. and Bill Kathy Reinger of Glen Allen, Va.; and two grandchildren, Willliam D. Linda Reinger and Jeanette Jonathan Bennett, both of North Carolina.
Friends may call today from 6 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 11 to 11:45 a.m. at the Higgins Reardan Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield.
Services will be presided over by the Reverend Kathy Reinger and Pastor Jeffrey H. Mincher conducted at noon on Sunday at the funeral home.
The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to Hospice of the Valley in Helen¹s memory.
