AUSTINTOWN - Prayers will begin Monday at 9:30 AM at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church with Msgr. Kenneth Miller officiating, for Helen V. Rushen, 86, who died Friday, February 14, 2014 at Briarfield Manor surrounded by her family.
Helen was born March 5, 1927 in Youngstown, to Andrew and Rose (Gruver) Noufer.
She attended East High School and was a homemaker who dedicated her life to her family.
Helen was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Austintown AARP Club, the Senior Center, the Card Club and past president and treasurer for the 55 Plus Club.
She enjoyed baking, exercising, celebrating St. Patrick's Day, and most of all, the time she spent with her family.
Helen and her husband also loved to travel across the country, especially to the beach.
Her husband, Stephen W., whom she married January 15, 1947, died August 3, 2009.
Helen is survived by three daughters, Pamela (Ivan) Croell of Austintown, Deborah (Dennis) Barnhart of Butler, PA, and Mary (Kirk) Gegick of Wadsworth; a son William (Marilyn) of McDonald; a brother Edward (Liz) Noufer of Girard; eight grandchildren Melissa Pittman, William Rushen Jr., Lisa Netroe, Stephen Rushen, who is currently in Kuwait, serving the the U.S. Army, Rebecca Dancik, Victoria Rushen and Virginia and Katerina Gegick; eight great-grandchildren, Michael Rushen, Joshua Pittman, Melanie and Sarah Netroe, Morgan and Tylar Rushen, and Evan and Madeline Dancik; and special nieces Barbara Noufer and Jeanne Giansante.
She was also preceded in death by a son Stephen E. Rushen; sister Margaret White; brothers Andrew and John Noufer; and three great-grandsons.
Family and friends may call Sunday from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home.
Helen's family would like to especially thank Briarfield Manor and MVI Hospice Care for the special care and devotion they showed for their mother, and has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to MVI Hospice Care, 4891 Belmont Ave. Youngstown, OH 44505, in Helen's memory.
