HELEN L. ROGERS SEMERARO
"Together Again"
AUSTINTOWN - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church for Helen L. Rogers Semeraro, 93, who passed away Saturday at Humility House.
Helen was born Sept. 21, 1919, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Joseph P. and Maria (Novotny) Kachurek.
Helen attended Stambaugh School, Holy Name of Jesus School, and was a June 1938 graduate of Chaney High School.
Helen married William L. Rogers on Sept. 6, 1941, and he passed away Dec. 15, 1949. They had two daughters, Joyce R. Rogers Semeraro of Columbus and Gayle L. Rogers Ferraro of Youngstown.
Helen worked in the insurance department and office manager at St. Elizabeth Hospital for nine years.
Helen married George A. Semeraro on Oct. 10, 1953.
She enrolled at Youngstown University and graduated with a B.S. in Education. She taught 1st and 2nd grade at Immaculate Heart of Mary School for 19 years.
Helen and George retired in 1982. They moved to Florida and joined dance clubs. They were accomplished dancers in Ballroom, Square and Round. They belonged to Idora Ballroom Dancers, Flagler Ballroom Dancers, Palm Coast Squares, Flagler Squares, and Pearly Shells Round Dancers. They entertained schools, festivals and nursing homes.
They were parishioner of Mother Elizabeth Seton in Palm Coast, Fla. and Our Lady of Hope in Port Orange, Fla. In 2002, Helen and George moved back to Youngstown to be with family.
George died in Oct. 11, 2008 and they had celebrated 55 years of marriage Oct. 10, 2008.
Helen also leaves two sisters, Mary Lou (Bill) Mikula Hudak of Youngstown and Rita Mae Johnston of Austintown; a brother, Raymond (Pat) Kachurek of Youngstown; 16 grandchildren Paul, Richard, John (Tonya), Michael, Lisa, Bob, Bill, Marci, Elena, James, Melanie, Mary Pat, Tom, Tess Semeraro, Gia Ferraro Voitus and David (Nicole) Ferraro; and eight great-grandchildren, Sara, Jackson, Callie, Jordan, Danielle, Michael. Rocco, and Gianna.
She was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Michael Kachurek; a brother, Joseph Kachurek; two sisters, Agnes White and Martha McClain; and a grandson, Joseph Semeraro.
Family and friends may call Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church.
