Helen M. Senediak, 81

CANFIELD ­ Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral
Home, Canfield Chapel, and at 11 a.m. at St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian
Orthodox Church for Helen M. Senediak, 81 who passed away Wednesday evening
at St. Elizabeth Austintown Campus with her daughter at her side.
Helen was born March 2, 1926, in Youngstown, the daughter of Michael and
Mary Fedor Marnik.
She was a 1943 graduate of Wilson High School, where she was known by her
classmates as ³vest pocket size² and later attended Youngstown University.
In her early years, she worked at the Bureau of Employment Services.
Helen attended St. Mark¹s Orthodox Church and St. Michael Carpatho-Russian
Orthodox Church and was an active member of St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian
Orthodox Church, where she had been a Church Board member, a charter member
and treasurer of the Ukrainian Orthodox League, supervisor of Sunday School,
past president of the Junior Sisterhood, Flower Fund chairman, chairman of
the Fiftieth Jubilee Committee for Sts. Peter and Paul Church, food chairman
for the New Year¹s Eve Dance and the Charter Day Ball for the Ukrainian
Orthodox League, was named Ukrainian Women of 1973 for the Youngstown
Chapter of the Ukrainian Orthodox League and vice president of the Eastern
Orthodox Women's Society. For her outstanding Lay activity and personal
achievement, she was elected 1973 Eastern Orthodox Men¹s Society Woman of
the Year.
She devoted many hours to the youth of the church, instituting Communion
Breakfasts for the graduates and their families.
Helen was very active in the community, donating many hours to volunteer
work for charities such as the Heart Fund and the United Appeal. She was a
member of the International Institute working with many people from all over
the world, was past chairman for the Ukrainian Cultural Display at the
International Folk Festival and also chairman for the Ukrainian Christmas
Tree displayed at the Butler Art Institute.
Helen was a past President of the Mothers¹ Club of the Delta Mu Chapter of
the Phi Mu Sorority in Youngstown, devoted many hours to sorority activities
and, in her later years, was a member of the Ohio Cultural Alliance and
Wickliffe Garden Club.
Her husband, Theodore Senediak, whom she married May 31, 1947, preceded her
in death Dec. 7, 1990.
³To know her was to love he² is how she is remembered by her family and
friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Senediak of Canfield, with whom
she made her home; the love of her life, her dog Michele; three
sisters-in-law, Marie Pupa of Austintown, Alice Dobransky Al of Canfield
and Dorothy Mehalco of Austintown; two godsons, Greg Pupa of McDonald and
David Senediak of Youngstown; her cousins, George Matey Jr. of Duquesne,
Pa., John Matey Jr. of Monroeville, Pa., Dr. Anna Halechko and Atty. Mary
Martha Halechko, both of Pittsburgh, and Paul Matey of Akron; her extended
family, Estee Elias, Becky Meredith, Helen Modarelli, Judy Hall, Rev. Dan
Rohan and Socrates Kolitsos; her caregivers, Nancy Raymor and Doina Pol; and
many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Besides her husband, Helen was preceded in death by her parents.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the
Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, where a prayer
service will be at 8 p.m.
