Helene Holcshuh

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 10:30 A.M. at St. Charles Church for Helene R. Holcshuh, 95, formerly of Boardman, who passed away September 15 in Northern Kentucky.
Helene was born Aug. 6, 1921 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Joseph and Rose (Cambert) Guerriero.
Helene was a 1939 graduate of Ursuline High School. She served in the WAAC and WAC as a Master Sergeant during WWII. She was the second woman to go into Ft. Knox Gold Vault. (Eleanor Roosevelt was the first) Helene retired from Kroger after 30 years.
Helene was a life member of the American Legion Mary P. Klaser Post 727, where she was also past Mahoning County commander; the American Legion Auxiliary where she was a life member of the Mahoning Valley Unit 15 in Poland, past ninth district president, and past Ohio Department president; the WAC Veterans Association; government advisor at Buckeye Girl's State;and past Chapeau of Eight and Forty Salon 336.
Helene was a member of St. Charles Church, where she was an inviter, lector, eucharistic minister, and member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas; past treasurer and financial secretary of Court Bishop McFadden Court #1650; past state treasurer and secretary of the Ohio State Court; Missionaries of the Sacred Heart Auxiliary; and the Ladies of Charity.
Helene volunteered her time with Meals on Wheels; Youngstown VA Clinic; Greenbriar Nursing Home; Retired Senior Volunteer Program RSVP; American Cancer Society and Road to Recovery; Keystone Rehabilitation Systems; and Woodside Hospital. She was awarded The President's Call to Service Award, the RCD "Keeper of the Flame" Award from the Ohio Secretary of State Office and Cancer Volunteer of the Year Award.
Her husband, Frank J. Holcshuh, whom she married on Feb. 26, 1943 at St. Patrick Church, passed away in 1998. Helene and Frank were the first WWII military couple to wed in Youngstown.
Helene leaves her son, Robert J. Holcshuh (Carol) of Erlanger, KY; a sister, Carmel Quattro of Struthers; and a brother, James Guerriero of Boardman.
Helene was also preceded in death by a sister, Toni Carkido; and a brother, Joseph A. Guerriero.
Family and friends may call Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the church
