AUSTINTOWN - Prayers will be held Tuesday at noon at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 p.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church for Henry "Hank" Doinoff, 76, who passed away peacefully Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, surrounded by his loving family after a short and courageous battle with cancer.
A son of Kolio and Alexandra Delcheff Doinoff, Henry was born Oct. 31, 1935, in Lorain.
Upon graduating from Fitch High School in 1954, Henry served in the U.S. Army at Ladd Air Force Base in Fairbanks, Alaska until 1956. He was a Construction Supervision for 34 years for both Residential and Commercial projects throughout the Mahoning Valley. In 2000, Hank retired from the Mahoning County Engineering Department .
He leaves his wife of 55 years, Jean Damore Doinoff of Austintown; two sons, Nick Theresa from North Lima and Jeffrey Heidi from San Francisco; a daughter, Cindy Ken Gorczyca of North Ridgeville; six grandchildren, Jason Doinoff, Cassandra John Slipski, Courtney Doinoff, Gregory, Zachary, and Gina Gorczyca; and a great-granddaughter, Sadie Crespo. Henry also leaves one brother, Richard Gloria from San Diego; two sisters, Julia Piersant of Austintown and Doris Faber of Syracuse, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews from the Damore, Doinoff, Mastro, Piersant, and Faber families.
Hank was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Doinoff and George Doinoff.
He enjoyed listening to Frank Sinatra, Big Band Music Ensembles and Jazz, as well as golf and travel. Mostly, Hank believed in " family" and sharing his passion for Bulgarian and Italian culinary traditions like lamb roasts and polenta parties. Henry was a member of Eagles Aerie 213, VFW Post 93, and Catholic War Veterans Post 1292.
Friends may pay tribute to Hank and his family Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Tuesday from 11 a.m. to noon at the funeral home.
