BOARDMAN — Hilde Schadel, 91, died peacefully Saturday afternoon, Jan. 18, 2020, at Briarfield Manor Nursing Home.
Hilde was born May 27, 1928, in Schmeil, Czechia, the daughter of Joseph and Marie Stecker.
Together, Hilde and her husband immigrated to Canada in 1955 from Germany, eventually making it to the United States a year later, where they settled in Bedford. They finally made it to Youngstown years later.
Hilde spent her life as a homemaker, dedicating her life to the care of her family.
She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and the Saxon Club Ladies Branch 22. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing and craftwork.
Hilde is survived by her daughter, Dorin N. Schadel of Dallas; two sons, Peter H. Schadel of Austintown and Ronald J. (Lisa) Schadel of Findlay; a sister, Traudel; and four grandchildren, Eric, Marc, Derek and Jessica Schadel.
Her husband, Herbert S. Schadel, whom she married May 27, 1952, died Nov. 13, 2008. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Bruno, Annie, Marie and Walpanga.
Family and friends may call 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel.
Prayers will begin at 10:15 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at St. Charles Church, celebrated by the Rev. Gerald DeLucia.
The family has requested material tributes take the form of donations to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St. Boardman, Ohio 44512.
