Howard Brogan Sr

BOARDMAN - Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. at the Heritage Presbyterian Church for Howard E. ?Barney? Brogan Sr., 91, who passed away Wednesday morning at St. Mary?s Alzheimer?s Center.

He was born June 7, 1919, in Struthers, the son of the late Emory and Lulu Belle Smith Brogan and was a life long area resident.

Mr. Brogan was a graduate of Struthers High School, and later began an apprenticeship with Bricklayers Local No. 8 of Youngstown, where he was a member for over 50 years. He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the 335th Engineers Regiment and was ranked as a Tech five. He received five Bronze Stars for his meritorious service.

Howard was a former member of the Brownlee Woods Presbyterian Church and was a current member of the Heritage Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Hillman Masonic Lodge No. 481 and VFW Post No. 982. Barney was an avid golfer, and bowler. He was well known by area golfers, not only for his skill but for providing lessons and custom making golf clubs.

His wife, the former Evelyn Mae Nelson, whom he married Aug. 10, 1946, passed away Dec. 17, 2002.

He leaves his daughter, Loretta Ronald McKay, with whom he made his home in Boardman; his son, Howard E. Beth Ann Brogan Jr. of Poland; and two grandchildren, Jay and Kimberly and her husband, Vance.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Chester Brogan; and a sister, Anne Mae Haller.

Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel and Monday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Heritage Presbyterian Church.

The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to either St. Mary?s Alzheimer Center or the Church Memorial Fund in Howard?s memory.
