POLAND - Prayers will begin Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 1:30 p.m. at the Holy Family Church for Irene Jane Cole, 89, formerly of Poland, who died Sunday afternoon at Forest Hills Center in Columbus.
A number of years ago, Charles and Irene Cole moved from Poland to the Columbus area to be closer to family.
Irene was born Sept. 17, 1924, in Springfield, the daughter of Walter and Josephine (Jachman) Tochman, and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School.
She was a member of the Holy Family Church and was active in its Altar Guild.
When her children were grown, she embarked on a long and successful career in real estate. Her other activities included the Poland Garden Club as well as the Poland Historical Society. Irene's family, which she loved unconditionally, was her life. But she still took time to enjoy golf, boating and bowling over the years.
She is survived by her husband, Charles T. Cole, whom she married in 1946; two daughters, Charlene (Gerel) Scott of Lewis Center and Kari (Tim) Kauffman of Gahanna; a son, Brian D. (Nancy) Cole of Thornton, Colo.; and five grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by the tragic loss of her daughter, Cheryl; and a sister, Charlotte Petrollini.
Friends may call Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in her memory.
