BOARDMAN - Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Tabernacle Evangelical Presbyterian Church for Irene F. Garrett, 76, who died Monday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.
Irene was born Dec. 21, 1939, in Salineville, the daughter of Dale and Beaula Addison Gardener.
She was a graduate of Salineville High School and attended Canton Business College pursuing secretarial studies. She worked for Land Title Guarantee & Trust Company, when living in Cleveland, then worked for Lyons Medical for over 21 years. When she came to the Youngstown area she worked for Owens and Myer as a purchase orderer and then worked at Shepard of the Valley for 25 years in the Human Resource Department until retiring in 2012.
Irene was a member of the Tabernacle Evangelical Presbyterian Church and was involved in community Bible study. She was a past president of the PTA in Lakewood and a band parent for Austintown Fitch High School.
Irene enjoyed puzzles and was a member of the puzzle club at the Boardman Library.
Irene's husband, William Garrett, whom she married April 15, 1961, died Dec. 2, 2013.
She is survived by her sons, James Garrett of Boardman and DeWayne Garrett of Washingtonville; and three grandchildren, Zackary, Jackelyn and McKenzie Garrett.
Irene was also preceded in death by her parents.
Family and friends may call Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, and Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to the Hope Center for Cancer, 835 Southwestern Run, Youngstown, OH 44514.
