Youngstown - Services will be Tuesday at 9:15 AM at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home Austintown Chapel and at 10:00 AM at St. Brendan Church for Irene R. Vadjunec, 54, of Youngstown who passed away Friday evening at her home surrounded by her family after a 1 1/2 year battle with cancer.
Irene was born November 6, 1951, in Youngstown, the daughter of John and Margaret Korda LaBerto.
She was a 1969 graduate of Fitch High School, and earned her LPN certificate from the Choffin Career Center. Irene Began her professional career as an LPN for St. Elizabeth Hospital where she worked for 24 years. She then worked in the Youngstown City Schools for 14 years as the school nurse most recently at Kirkmere School until the time of her illness. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Irene was very creative and enjoyed playing cards. She was a member of St. Brendan Church, and attended Novenas at St. Joseph Church in Campbell and at St. Nicholas Byzantine Church.
Irene is survived by her husband Carl F. Vadjunec who she married August 25, 1973, two daughters Amy R.William J. Jr. Miklandric of Youngstown and Lindsay M. Vadjunec at Home; a son Michael V. Vadjunec at home; two sisters Margaret "Cookie" Jim Schwarten of Salem and Mary Jane Mahoney Moser and her husband Ken of Ocala, FL; two brothers Rich Candice LaBerto of Poland and Joseph Patricia LaBerto of Canfield; and two grandchildren Gabriella and Madelyn Miklandric, and her mother in law Frances Vadjunec of Boardman.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her father-in-law Walter Vadjunec.
Friends may call Monday from 4 to 8 PM at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home Austintown Chapel.
The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to the Michael Vadjunec Special Needs Trust at any National City Bank branch.
