Boardman - A Memorial Service will be held Monday at 11 AM at Bethel Lutheran Church in Boardman for J. Peter Van Nest, 78 who passed away Wednesday evening at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Boardman.
Peter was born May 5, 1930 in Irvington, N.J. the son of Joseph P. and Gladys H. McClelland Van Nest.
Peter was a 1948 graduate of Boardman High School and graduated from Kent State University. He served in the United State Navy Reserve. Peter was owner and operator of Van Nest Real Estate and Insurance for 50 years, retiring in 1982. He was an active member of the Boardman Kiwanis and served as president of Youngstown Area Polio Foundation. He was past
president of Boardman F.O.P.A. and served as township trustee in Boardman.
Peter was a member of the Sulgrave Masonic Lodge #696, and the Youngstown Shrine Club. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and served on the church board and various committees. Peter enjoyed collecting and
restoring antique cars and furniture and was a member of the Ye Olde Car Club. He loved golf and was an avid reader.
Peter leaves his wife the former Helen S. Kalman whom he married Sept. 6, 1952; a daughter Laurel S. Charles T. Whitman; a son Jonathan Paula Van Nest; and three grandchildren Bradley Whitman, Suzanne Whitman and
Shane Van Nest.
Peter was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call Sunday from 3 to 5 Pm at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home Boardman-Canfield Chapel and Monday from 10 to 11 AM at the Church.
In lieu of flowers family requests material tributes take the form of donations to the Memorial Fund at Bethel Lutheran Church.
