POLAND - A prayer service will be held on Monday at 10:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church for Mr.Jack Patrick Lindsay, who passed away peacefully at Briarfield at Ashley Circle on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, after an extended illness.
Born on April 29, 1936, Jack was the son of George A. and Mary E. Simon Lindsay.
After graduating from North High School, Jack attended Ohio University, then entered the U.S. Marine Corps.
He married Dorothy Bayne on July 16, 1960.
He retired from General Electric Lamp Plant in Winchester, Va. in 1998, after 40 years of dedicated service.
Jack was very involved in his children and granddaughter's lives. There were the yearly summer family car vacations and trips to Cedar Point. He was a dedicated football and basketball dad, and served as a Boardman band chaperone to their many pro-football performances and a most memorable Macy's Day Parade. Jack's favorite activity upon retirement was to become the greatest "Papa" to his only granddaughter, Rachael. They spent many hours at the parks and playgrounds.
Papa liked his sports, especially the ones Rachael participated in, starting with the early days of t-ball, YMCA basketball, and youth soccer. He attended every high school soccer game and track meet, and had the pleasure of watching her and her team win back-to-back state track championships. He was so proud of her, but was not able to be at the NCAA D3 National Track Championship to watch her and her 4x100 team win gold.
Jack leaves behind his wife, Dorothy; daughter Jacci (Dave) Adams of Louisville; son Jack Jr. (Elisabeth) Lindsay of Plymouth, Mich.; and granddaughter Rachael Adams.
He is also survived by his brother, Gerald Lindsay (Linda) of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; his sister-in-law, Ginny Lindsay of Xenia; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Jane Clarke; and brothers George and Richard Lindsay.
The Lindsay family extends special thanks to Karen Galbreath, his home care nurse from Shepherd of the Valley.
Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
