Jack P. Sich, 76, passed away on February 10, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
He was born on January 24, 1948, in Youngstown, a son of Virginia McGlynn Sich.
Education played a significant role in Jack's life journey. He graduated from Youngstown East High School in the class of 1966, where he excelled in football, basketball, and baseball. Following his high school achievements, he pursued higher education at Youngstown State University (YSU), earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. Jack's thirst for knowledge led him to Westminster University, where he obtained a Master's Degree in Administration.
Jack had a passion for learning and teaching. He dedicated his career to shaping young minds and served as a History teacher at various Youngstown Schools. His impact extended beyond the classroom when he transitioned to teaching Occupational work experience (OWE) at his alma mater, East High School. Jack's commitment to his students went beyond academics; he helped them succeed not only in the classroom but also in their lives. Additionally, he served as an assistant football coach at North High School.
In addition to his notable career, Jack had many interests and accomplishments that brought joy to his life. It was during his time as an educator that he crossed paths with the love of his life, Marilyn Cretella. On November 18, 1972, they tied the knot at St. Edwards Church and embarked on a beautiful journey together spanning 51 years. They shared a love for life itself—traveling, cruising, and basking under the sun on sandy beaches were among their favorite activities. In celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary, they embarked on an unforgettable trip to Italy.
Jack exemplified wit and intelligence throughout his life. An avid reader and golfer, he constantly sought knowledge and embraced challenges on the golf course with his buddies during sunny days. Moreover, Jack was a devoted sports fan who held season tickets for YSU football for an impressive 35 years. His favorite teams included Ohio State football and basketball as well as the New York Yankees. Many afternoons were spent cheering on his beloved teams with a cold Budweiser in hand.
Jack cherished connections and built lasting relationships throughout his life. During his time at YSU, he joined the Alpha Phi Delta fraternity and continued to enjoy the fellowship of his brothers through the fraternity's Alumni Club. This bond remained strong over the years, bringing him joy and lifelong friendships.
In his passing, Jack was preceded by his mother Virginia, grandparents Charles and Hazel McGlynn, as well as his in-laws Angelo and Angeline Cretella.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for his surviving family and friends. His beloved wife Marilyn holds onto memories of their wonderful life together. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law Susann and Joe Timko of Liberty, as well as his brother and sister-in-law Michael and Margie Cretella along with their families.
