Jackie was born June 19, 1936, in Salem, a daughter of Martin “Marty” and Dorothy (Baldauf) Welsh.

She attended Kent State University and became a teacher at St. Paul’s Catholic Elementary School and later was a teacher at 4th Street School. Jackie married Gene Hergenrother May 18, 1957.

Jackie stayed home to raise her sons and was very active in numerous activities: she was an organist, Choir Director and a Eucharistic Minister at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, President and National Delegate to Catholic Daughters, Volunteer of the Year 2016-17 for the Salem Regional Medical Center, Rotary’s Citizen of the Year, First President and life-long volunteer of Mobile Meals in Salem, President of Legion of Mary, and Organist for Hannah Mullins School of Nursing graduation ceremony for years. Jackie participated in Adoration at St. Paul’s, sang and played the organ for many couples’ weddings.

She was a devout Catholic. Jackie was a loving wife, mother and adored her grandchildren. Aside from her passion for her family, she loved her Notre Dame football. She and Gene honeymooned in South Bend and visited yearly. Jackie imparted her love of Notre Dame on her grandchildren by taking them to visit every year.

Her greatest enjoyment was watching her grandchildren in their theater plays and sporting events. She was an avid reader.

Jackie leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Gene; son Marty and wife Cathy and their four children Marta, Clark, Camden and Mick; and another son, Kurt.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her two sisters, Sis Sobek and Audrey Welsh.
