Austintown - James "Eddie" E. Absalom died of complications of a stroke Wednesday morning at St. Elizabeth Hospital. There will be services Saturday at 9:00 AM at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home Austintown Chapel and at 9:30 AM at Immaculate Heart Of Mary Church.
Mr. Absalom was born in Morgantown, W.VA September 24, 1930, a son of the late James H. and Mary E. Nichols Absalom. He came to the Youngstown area in 1936.
Mr. Absalom was a graduate of Rayen High School. A Navy veteran he served from 1951 to 1955. He worked for local grocery stores as a manager. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3930 and was a 4th degree Knight. He was the receipient of many honors from the Knights of Columbus including Chapter Knight of the Year. He served as Deputy Guard Knight, Grand Knight, Financial Secretary and Trustee for the council. He was a church usher and a member of the Men's Club, the Senior Citizens and a former church councilman. In May of 1996 he was the 1st brave recipient of experimental heart remodeling surgery at the Cleveland Clinic. He enjoyed another 10 years of quality life because of his courageousness.
He leaves his wife Sally Schreiber whom he married August 18, 1951; four daughters Kathy Ray Bokesch of Austintown, Pam Fred Bacak of Mineral Ridge, Mary Jeff Del Signore of Austintown and Theresa Nick Doinoff of North Lima; three sisters Jean Hoffman of Garrettsville, Melba Young of Boardman, and Carolyn Semivan of Austintown; eight grandchildren David Kagle, April Brad Murphy, Erika and Alexandra Campolito, Taylor Henderson, Jason, Cassandra and Courtney Doinoff and one great granddaughter Makayla Murphy.
Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
