"Jim" was born March 21, 1928, in Youngstown, the son of Miguel and Andrea (Remboa) Berroteran, who came to the United States in 1924 from Chihuaha, Mexico.

He graduated from The Rayen School in 1947 and enlisted in the National Guard from 1947 to 1951.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Joseph and Michael Berroteran; and sister Maria Daniels.
