AUSTINTOWN-Services will be Tuesday at 9:30 AM at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown, and at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church for James E. Brauer age 55 of Canfield-Niles Rd. formerly of Staatz Dr. Austintown who passed away Friday morning at home surrounded by loved ones. Jim was born October 1, 1948, in Youngstown, the son of Gerald R. and Patricia B. Crann Brauer. He was a machinist, and had been the cofounder of Wickliffe Auto Parts, and for 35 years was the owner operator of Brauer Machine Shop until the time of his illness. He was a 1966 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, and attended Youngstown University. He was well known for his expertise in building racing engines, and had began his racing career drag racing at the Meander Drag Strip, and later became an avid Sprint Car racer. He was a member of the Automotive Service Association, and loved football.
He is survived by his mother Patricia Brauer of Austintown, three daughters, Kerri L. Dean A. Sahli of Columbus, Julie A. Brauer with whom he made his home, and Amanda Brauer of Newton Falls, two sisters, Barbara A. Walter Hurdley, and Janet E. Raymond Carkido both of Austintown, three grandchildren, Drake A., Kayla E., and Ella R. Sahli, three nephews, Wally, Gary, and Doug Hurdley, and a niece Colleen Hurdley. He was preceded in death by his father Gerald R. Brauer, and a brother Jeffrey R. Brauer. Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM Monday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel. The family requests that material tributes take the form of donations to the Jim Brauer Benefit Fund at Sky Bank.
