CANFIELD - A memorial service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Maron's Church, Youngstown for Mr. James "Jim" Hammond, 61, who entered eternal peace on Tuesday afternoon at the Hospice House after a long battle with cancer.
He was born July 28, 1949, in Pennsylvania, a son of Stephen and Margaret Gutwald Hammond.
Jim was a graduate of Youngstown State with a Business degree and moved to New Jersey with his wife, Deborah to open up J&S Warehouse and Raising Star Transportation, which he owned and operated until he retired in 2004 and they moved back here.
He was an Army Vietnam veteran and was a member of the Eagles in Austintown and was a member of the church. Jim loved to be outside working in his yard and loved playing in Texas Hold'em tournaments. His creative active mind made him full of life but his greatest love was his family.
He leaves his wife, the former Deborah Olson, whom he married March 11, 1972; his parents, Stephen and Margaret of Pennsylvania; a sister, Marcia Hammond of Pennsylvania; two brothers, Stephen Hammond of New Jersey and Kerry Kathy Hammond of Pennsylvania; his nephew, Patrick Detwiler, whom he helped raise since the age of 13; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses who helped take such wonderful care of Jim during his illness.
Friends may call Friday from 9 a.m. till the time of the service at the church .
