James Hebb

April 25, 1948 — April 6, 2019

AUSTINTOWN - James Hebb, 70, entered into eternal rest on Saturday surrounded by his loving family, at Heritage Manor in Liberty.

Jim was born on April 25, 1948, in Grafton, W.Va., the son of the late Arie Fay, and Violet G. Shingleton, and lived in the Poland and Boardman areas for a short time, before returning to Grafton, W.Va.

Jim was a 1966 graduate of Grafton High School, and went on to join the U.S. Army.  He served in Vietnam with the 71st Assault Helicopter Company, and returned to the Youngstown area, where he met and married the love of his life, Catherine Timlin Hebb, on July 29, 1972.

After serving 16 years with the U.S. Army, Jim went full time active duty in the 38th Infantry Division, with the Indiana Army National Guard in Ft. Wayne, Ind. While in Ft. Wayne, he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Indiana Institute of Technology, with a Bachelors in Business Administration in 1991. Jim retired from the military in September of 1992, after serving 26 years, and returned to the Youngstown area and was employed by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services as a claims specialist. After working 20 years for the state, he retired in March of 2014.

Jim was passionate about genealogy, music, and frequented casinos, and was an avid Cleveland Browns, and Indians fan.   He was very kind hearted, friendly, and very involved with his family, and lived by the philosophy of the Golden Rule.  If love could’ve saved him, he would’ve lived for eternity.

Jim is survived by his wife of 46 years, Catherine; his daughter, Honey Janelle, of Austintown;  sisters  Nancy (Bobby) Jones of Lexington, Ky.,  Kim (Keith) Weber of Grafton; brother Frank (Mary) McGinnis of Illinois; brothers-in-law John (Brenda) Timlin of Lordstown, Brian (Dorothy) Timlin of Liberty, Ronald (Richawn) Timlin of Youngstown, and Donald Timlin of Youngstown; and sisters-in-law Diane Timlin of Austintown, and Beverly (Jim) McIntroy of Youngstown. Jim had special family that he cared a great deal about, great-niece Tei’ahna “TT” Green of Youngstown, and Anthony, Andrew, Molly, and Megan of Glen Allen, Va.; and a host of other family including, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews; and last but certainly not least, his beloved dog, Gidget.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law Patricia Timlin; sister Janet Barcus; and nephew Shawn Timlin.

Services will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Higgins- Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Michael Byus, with military honors to follow. Family and friends may call two hours prior to the funeral.

The family wishes to give heartfelt thanks to Heritage Manor, Crossroads Palliative and Hospice for their excellent and compassionate care of Jim.
