YOUNGSTOWN - A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. at St. Christine's Catholic Church for Mr. James R. "Seamus" Kerrigan, 84, who died Friday morning at The Inn of Christine Valley.
He was born Sept. 11, 1926, in Youngstown, a son of James T. and Winnifred Conroy Kerrigan.
After attending Sacred Heart School, Seamus became a proud graduate of Ursuline High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Navy and served his country during World War II. He then attended and graduated from St. Vincent's College in Latrobe, Pa., earning his Bachelors degree in Business Administration.
Mr. Kerrigan served as a Youngstown Firefighter for over 30 years retiring as an engineer. After retiring from the fire department, he worked as a clerk for the Mahoning County Probate Court and went to the Downtown YMCA everyday to work out. During his career with the city and county Seamus also worked as a licensed real estate agent, selling real estate for several area brokers, retiring from Zid Realty.
Mr. Kerrigan was a charter member of St. Christine's and was also involved in the churches and fire department's golf and bowling leagues. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Bishop Malone Council. Seamus was very proud of his Irish heritage and was a founding member and past president of the Mahoning Valley Gaelic and was instrumental in establishing The Burke School Of Irish Dancing.
Mr. Kerrigan was also very proud of his Alma Mater, Ursuline High School, he was a life-long member of the Ursuline Boosters and an avid fan.
Seamus leaves his wife, the former Anne M. Babik, whom he married Oct. 17, 1952; three daughters, Peggy Bill Palma of Boardman, Mary T. Lou Fetch of Cincinnati and Kathy Steve Menck of Hendersonville, N.C.; two sons, Dr. James T. Mimi Kerrigan of Boardman and Michael F. Kerrigan of Columbus; and seven grandchildren; Lou, Brian and Patrick Fetch, John, Christine and Jimmy Kerrigan and Kara Menck.
The family would like to thank Dr. John Koval and the staff at the Inn of Christine Valley and MVI Hospice and all of his caregivers for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions may be made to Ursuline High School.
Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel and on Monday from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. at the church.
