His first wife of 52 years, Dorothy Chapay Martin, preceded him in death in 2010.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Martin, whom he married 15 months ago; his mother, Susan Mae Martin of Edmund, Okla.; two daughters, Kim Howard Vari of Poland and Heidi Martin of Boardman; four grandchildren, Rachel and Alex Vari and Dillon and James Gennaro; and a sister, Joyce Peters of Edmund.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Lynne Martin; and a brother, David Martin.

James will always be remembered for his complete devotion to his family. There are no words to adequately describe how much he was loved and how much he will be missed. Anyone who was ever blessed to know him will always remember his intelligence, integrity and character. His greatest legacy is the love he had for his family.

Mr. Martin's family would like to thank Dr. Sandy Naples, Dr. Matthew Cooney and his staff at University Hospital, Sunrise Assisted Living, Hampton Woods and Hospice of the Valley for their compassionate care during his illness.
