James Mccarthy

BOARDMAN - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Charles Church, and prayers offered at 9:45 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, for Mr. James T. McCarthy, 98, who died early Saturday morning at his residence.

James was born Aug. 25, 1910 in Buffalo, N.Y., to the late Florence and Catherine O'Keefe McCarthy.

He was a member of St. Charles Church and the Ancient Order of Hibernia.

James retired in 1969 from the Erie and Lackawanna Railroad, serving over 40 years as a Superintendent.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, the former Catherine I. Baker, whom he married July 10, 1933, and died Jan. 14, 1994; a son, Richard; a son-in-law, Ronald Lawrence; his sisters, Mary, Catherine and Abby; and his brothers, Jerry, Frank, Ted, John and Joe.

He is survived by five daughters, Marian Burdette Baker of Boardman, Elizabeth Donald Tait of Calgary, Canada, Kathleen Ed Maloney of Boardman, Margaret "Peggy" Lawrence of Austintown and Eileen Thompson of Youngstown; eight sons, James Annette of Austintown, Jerry Kay of Canfield, Francis Norma of Austintown, William Marilyn of Erie, Pa., Michael Katie of Austintown, Timothy of Boardman, Terrance Mary-Ann of Canfield and Thomas of Cleveland; 30 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Hospice of the Valley or the Ursuline Motherhouse.
