POLAND - Prayers will begin Wednesday morning at 9:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Dominic Church for James Morris, 73, who died Friday evening at Northside Medical Center.
James was born Feb. 6, 1938, in Youngstown, the son of James and Dolores McCormick Morris. After graduating from Ursuline High School, he joined the U.S. Navy, where he served two years in active duty and two years reserve duty, after which he was honorably discharged.
James worked for the Mahoning County Auditor's office as Chief Real Estate Appraiser for 36 years. During that time he also served as a Deputy Sheriff in Mahoning County, as well as maintaining the position of Assistant Manager at the Southern Park Mall in Boardman.
He was a member of St. Dominic Church and Sokol's Wreath No. 108. He was also a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 274, and a 4th Degree member of Bishop Malone Assembly No. 826, both in Youngstown.
He was an avid golfer, golfing in the St. Dominic, Holy Family and Sokol golf leagues.
James was a devoted family man. He will be remembered for his unconditional love, kindness and generosity which he bestowed upon his family and friends.
James is survived by his wife, the former Carol Ann Olenick, whom he married May 11, 1963; two daughters, Shannon Morris of Canfield and Denise Joseph Blair of Albany; two brothers, Tim Carol of Charlotte and Terry Terry K. of Fort Wayne; a sister, Lorene James Duponty of Atlanta: two grandchildren, Kristi and Joey: and his beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jimi Morris; his twin sister, MaryAnn Potkanowicz; and a brother, Daniel Morris.
Friends may call Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel.
