August 23, 1924 — April 3, 2016

YOUNGSTOWN - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Brendan Catholic Church, preceded by a 9:15 a.m. prayer service at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, for James Edward O'Malley, 91, who died Sunday morning at the Inn at Ironwood, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. O'Malley was born on Aug. 23, 1924, in Youngstown, son of John and Veronica (Saus) O'Malley, and was a lifelong resident of the area.

He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. While enlisted in the Navy, James served in World War II. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, James began his career at Youngstown Sheet and Tube as an electrician, before retiring after 40 years. He later worked for Northside Hospital for 10 years.

James enjoyed bowling, fishing, and traveling. His favorite trip was one that he took to Ireland. Above all things, came James's love for his family and sports, especially his favorite team, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

He married the love of his life, the former Dorothy Pavlik, on Feb. 3, 1951. Dorothy preceded him in death on June 26, 1991.

James leaves to cherish his memory, daughter Debbie (John) Biastro of North Lima; five sons, James (Lori) O'Malley of Houston, Randy (Barb) O'Malley of Denver John (Tina) O'Malley of Canfield, Robert (Mary Jane) O'Malley of Howland and Tim O'Malley of Youngstown; brother Jack O'Malley of Boardman; 15 grandchildren, Brendan, Meghann, Molly, Leslie, Natalie, Mallory, Michael, Sean, Ryan, Briana, Matthew, Jonathan, Kayla, Madison, and Dori; and two great-grandchildren, James and Joseph.

Besides his parents and wife, James was preceded in death by his two siblings, Catherine Yohn and Jerry O'Malley.

Family and friends may call on Thursday from 4 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Ironwood Assisted Living, Dr. Bobovonik and staff, and Hospice of the Valley for their compassionate care of James.
