Poland - There will be services Friday at 11 AM at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home Poland Chapel for James Spencer Phelan, age 61, of Poland, passed away Monday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Medical Center after battling a 6 year heart condition.
James was born July 6, 1945 in St. Louis, MO., son of Juanita T. Spencer Phelan and Vernon R. Phelan.
He grew up in California, then moved to the Youngstown area in 1974. James was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown. He worked for Shenango Steel Co. for 7 years then Transport America for 15 years where he drove cross country. He loved family activities, traveling and camping.
He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife, Susan Lee Clarke Phelan whom he married 29 years ago on September 17, 1977, his 2 daughters, Jamie Sue, Pamela Elaine and future son-in-law, Kenneth Baird Zitello, 2 children and 5 grandchildren of California, a brother Thomas Alexander Phelan, 4 nephews and 6 nieces.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers Michael Charles Phelan and Patrick Doyle Phelan.
Family and friends may call Thursday from 5 to 7 PM at the funeral home.
