James Snider

August 10, 1934 — February 26, 2013

AUSTINTOWN - Memorial services will be held Saturday April 6th at 11:00 AM at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel for James B. "Duke" Snider age 78, who died February 26th in Fort Myers, Florida.

Duke was born August 10, 1934 in Youngstown, the son of George and Ethel Snider.

He graduated from South High School in 1952 and then served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959, being honorably discharged as a Corporal.

Duke worked for the former Erie-Lackawanna Railroad for twenty eight years as a brakeman, conductor and extra yardmaster. He then owned and operated Snider's Antenna and T.V. Service Inc, and was the Chief Investigator and owner of Specialized Investigations and Specialized Video-Taping.

He was a former president of the Ohio Television Servicemen's Association, past president of the Youngstown Downtown Kiwanis Club and former chairman of the board of the Youngstown Area Better Business Bureau. He was also a former member of The Crime Clinic of Greater Youngstown, and the Curbstone Coaches.

Duke played fast pitch softball as a catcher for a number of leagues and teams in Youngstown, mostly for Local #1331. He had also boxed in the Golden Gloves and in the Army at Fort Jackson, SC.

He is survived by his wife Lynne, whom he married in 1999, his daughters Tracy (Mick) Markovitch, Christine Owsley and Linda Lange, Grandchildren; Savannah and Christian Owsley, Mollie Callahan and Sarah and Mitchell Gross, four great-grandchildren, and a brother William (Martha) Snider of Burlington, KY.

Duke was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM Saturday, April 6th at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel.

The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to either Second Chance Animal Rescue or Hospice of Ft. Myers in Duke's memory.
