YOUNGSTOWN - A funeral service will be held Friday, July 26, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, for James R. Steinbeck, 79, who passed away early Friday morning July 12, 2013, at Hospice House.
James was born Feb. 6, 1934, in Youngstown, a son of the late Merle and Elva (Krohn) Steinbeck.
James lived in Las Vegas for the past 23 years, returning to Youngstown in November of 2012.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a maintenance supervisor for Tippecanoe Country Club. Prior to the country club, he worked for RJ Jaminett Architecture.
Most of his life he was a self-employed carpenter, and he also taught carpentry at the Choffin Career & Technical Center. He enjoyed driving stock cars in Canfield, golf, bowling and coaching little league football and baseball. James also loved to do woodworking.
James leaves his wife, the former Donna L. Garman, whom he married Feb. 6, 1958; his daughter, Karen (Pearly) Carr of Austintown; his two sons, Robert (Stephanie) Steinbeck of Pittsburgh and Jeffrey Steinbeck of North Las Vegas; and six grandchildren, Brittany (Geoff) Trees, Michael Steinbeck, James R. Steinbeck III, Matthew and David Steinbeck and David Carr.
James was also preceded in death by a son, James R. Steinbeck Jr.; a sister, Doris Minkler; and two brothers, Robert and Perry Steinbeck.
Material tributes may take the form of donations to Hospice of the Valley.
Burial will take place at Green Haven Memorial Gardens.
