POLAND - Prayers will begin Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at the Holy Family Church, for James "Jim" Varley, 72, who died Friday evening at home surrounded by his family.
Jim was born May 7, 1945, in Youngstown, the son of Michael and Lenore "Butch" (Haug) Varley.
He was a 1963 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School and attended Youngstown State University.
Jim worked as a car salesman for many years. He and his brother owned and operated Dodge City in Sharon, Pa., until retiring. He enjoyed golfing, boating and had a passion for cars. Jim was always very proud of his Irish heritage, which was very important to him.
Jim is survived by his wife, the former Nancy Walcott, whom he married Jan. 21, 1967; his daughter, Colleen (Chris) Joss of Poland; three sons, Jim (Stephanie) Varley of Springboro, Brian (Kelly) Varley of Poland and Jason Varley of Santa Monica; sister Kelly (Jim) Serich of Poland; two brothers, Rick (Marianne) Varley of Maryland and Denny (Ro) Varley of Michigan; mother-in-law, Jenny Walcott of Poland; three sisters-in-law, Diane (Don) Morell of Colorado, Denise (Jim) Podack of Florida, and Colleen (Mike) Hardie of Boardman; three brothers-in-law, Ken (Debbie) Walcott of Boardman, Bill (Debby) Walcott of Boardman and Ron (Harold) Walcott of Boardman; 10 grandchildren, Devin, Kirsten, Aaron, Braden, Lauren, Josh, Andrew, David, Will, and Adam; numerous nieces and nephews; and his furry companion, his dog, Crackers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; niece Emily Rose Hardie; and father-in-law, William Walcott.
Family and friends may call on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Poland Riverside Cemetery.
