NEW SPRINGFIELD - Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the Free Methodist Community Church in New Middletown for James S. Yost, 93, who died Thursday afternoon at St Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.
Jim was born March 31, 1921, in East Liverpool, the son of Albert and Elizabeth (Oliver) Yost.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater, earning a bronze star for his valor. Jim worked at Cherry Hill and Franklin Furniture companies for many years as an upholsterer before retiring. After his retirement, he worked as a courier for Purolator Courier and was the owner/operator of Jim's Upholstery Shoppe. He was a faithful, longtime member of the Free Methodist Community Church, where he served as a greeter and usher for many years. Jim enjoyed playing church league fast pitch softball until his children were born. Thereafter, he spent all his time following his children's and grandchildren's numerous activities. Jim also enjoyed playing cards, corn hole, gardening, taking care of his lawn and cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Jim is survived by his wife, the former Marie Sheely, whom he married July 3, 1949; one daughter, Connie DiPiero of Youngstown; two sons, Larry (Marcia) Yost of Poland and Brad (Judie) Yost of Canal Fulton; four grandchildren, Michael (Lindsey) Yost, David (Brittany) Yost, Dr. Raymond (Dr. Christy) Yost and Rachel (Vince) Asciutto; and a great-grandson James Vincent Asciutto.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Emidio DiPiero; two sisters, Edith Smith and Helen McDevitt; and two brothers, Robert and Charles Yost.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Monday morning, prior to services at the church.
