Jane Marie Seeley

January 11, 1952 — February 13, 2024

Salem

Jane Marie Seeley, 72, of Salem, and formerly of Washingtonville and New Waterford, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus on Feb. 13, 2024.  She was a follower of Christ, and recently attended Real Life Church in Salem when her health permitted. In decades prior, Jane had attended Cornerstone Assembly of God in North Lima and Columbiana Tabernacle, while occasionally visiting other churches in the region.

Jane was born on Jan. 11, 1952, to Charles Lewis Hart and Esther (Weiser) Hart of West Middlesex, Pa.  Jane began school one year earlier than most students, graduating high school at 17. She went on to attend Pennsylvania State University, graduating with distinction and receiving a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. In the 1990s, Jane went back to college, posting a 4.0 GPA while earning a Master of Social Work degree.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Esther Hart, and by her older brother, Harold Hart.

Jane was married to Kenneth Seeley on Sept. 9, 1977 at the Bair Foundation in New Wilmington, Pa. They remained married until July 9, 1996. They had two sons, Scott and Shawn, both of whom survive. Jane is also survived by a sister, Ruth Gruber, and a brother, David Hart.  Also surviving are two grandchildren, whom Jane loved very much, Rachel and Emma Seeley, daughters of her son Scott. Additionally, she is survived by her nephew Jason Gruber and niece Ashley Gruber. Jane also leaves behind her beloved pet cat, Malachi, whom she referred to as “my baby”, and he has been adopted by Jane’s sister Ruth.

When she was young, Jane worked as a nurse for several medical facilities, including East Liverpool City Hospital. She also worked for Columbiana County Head Start. For several years, Jane took time off to serve her family as a mother and a homemaker. After earning her master’s degree in the mid-1990s, Jane worked as a professional counselor at Parkview Counseling Center.

Jane enjoyed spending time with family, including her sons and her sister Ruth Gruber, and was absolutely thrilled to be a grandmother. She loved to shop and buy gifts for family and friends, and considered the entire year to be Christmas shopping season. Jane was always on the lookout for gifts that others might find useful. Several family members have wardrobes that are full of clothing from Jane, and her granddaughters have plenty to wear and many toys because of her loving gifts.

Jane enjoyed traveling whenever her health would permit. She loved visiting the beach, and often imagined herself at the ocean, even when she couldn’t get there physically. In 2017, Jane got to achieve a life-long dream when she went on an Alaskan cruise with her sister Ruth and nephew Jason.

When she was younger, Jane’s hobbies included many crafts such as cross stitch, crochet, needlepoint, and latch hook, all of which produced nice artwork for her and as gifts for others. She also enjoyed reading and puzzles or puzzle games.

A memorial service will be held for Jane at Real Life Church, 12824 S. Salem-Warren Road, in Salem, Ohio, on Wednesday, February 28. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the service begins at 11 a.m.

In accordance with her wishes, Jane’s remains were entrusted to Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Salem Chapel.
