NORTH LIMA - Prayers will begin at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Holy Family Church, for Janet M. Chicone, 58, who died Sunday evening at home after a long illness, surrounded by her family.
Janet was born Aug. 5, 1955, in Youngstown, to Joseph "Buckeye" and Joann (Slovasky) Petrek.
She was a 1973 graduate of Hubbard High School, and devoted her life to her family. Janet was a lifelong member of the Holy Family Church, where she was a member of the Ladies' Circle and the Altar Guild. She also volunteered at Hospice of the Valley.
Janet enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling, and most of all, her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Carmen P. Chicone Jr., whom she married April 19, 1975; her mother Joann Petrek; two daughters, Tina (Michael) Birsic of Washington D.C. and Crystal (JP) Burkhart of Chandler, Ariz.; a son, Carmen III of Poland; two sisters, Joyce (Dr. Michael) Markel of Canton and Jayne (Gene) Pavia of Hubbard; a brother, Joseph Petrek of Hubbard; a grandson, Joseph Burkhart; and her in-laws, Carmen Sr. and Antoinette Chicone.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Family and friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family requests that memorial tributes take the form of donations to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St. in Boardman.
